Stress And Stress Range Values As Calculation Input
Element stresses calculated with the FEA software are the input value for the weld fatigue assessments done by WeldFEM, disregarding which standard may be required. For example the DVS 1612 requires the use of stress values in order to assess welds correctly. Therefore the FE-models load cases need to be setup in a way, that the subsequent FE-analysis results represent stress values. Consequently the procedure of the weld assessment of the DVS 1612 and the Eurocode 3 differ, since the latter requires stress range values as calculation input. With that said, users of WeldFEM need to keep in mind, what the required calculation input is, so that the FE-models loads can be set up accordingly in advance.
The table below lists which assessment standard requires which input values.
Assessment Standard |
Calculation Input For Fatigue Assessment [MPa] |
DVS 1608 |
Stress values: σ; τ |
DVS 1612 |
Stress values: σ; τ |
DIN EN 13001-3-1 |
Stress range values: Δσ; Δτ |
Eurocode 3 |
Stress range values: Δσ; Δτ |
